Born on 19 January 1954 in Shillong, Dr. Panchami Baruah Das did her schooling in St. Mary's School, Shillong, and passed pre-university exam in 1971 from St. Mary's College, Shillong, under Guwahati University, securing the highest marks in Biology.

She joined MBBS course in 1971 in Gauhati Medical College. She passed MBBS in 1976, D.A. examination in 1981, and did her MD in Anaesthesiology in December 1985 from Gauhati Medical College.

She joined Gauhati Medical College as an anaesthetist in the year 1979 and became Asst. Professor in 1993 and Associate Professor in 2006. She was a life member of ISA (P-0797) and an active member of ISA, Assam State Branch, and attended various annual national conferences of ISA.

She was a great lover of music and fine arts, and herself was a born artiste. Her demise on 2 March 2012 after fighting cancer is mourned by ISA, Assam State Branch, and also by the ISA, National Governing Council, which has come to Assam for the governing council meeting at Guwahati.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Gokul Chandra Das, Prof. and HOD, O and G Department, Gauhati Medical College, and two sons - the elder one, Kaushik Das, a software engineer in Los Angeles, USA, and the younger son, Dr. Ujjal Das, BDS, in Guwahati.
