This maiden supplemental issue of the Indian Journal of Anaesthesia is being published for the first time, specially dedicated to include the abstracts of papers shortlisted for award sessions and later presented during the 67th Annual National Conference of ISA, (ISACON 2019) in Bengaluru between 24th to 29th November 2019.

There were 13 award paper sessions which included: (i) Kop award sessions on Cardiac Anaesthesia, Neuroanaesthesia, Obstetric Anaesthesia, Paediatric Anaesthesia, Clinical Pharmacology, Pain, Trauma and Critical Care and Practitioners forum (8), (ii) Jaipur Award sessions on Difficult Airway, Acute/Perioperative pain and Day Care anaesthesia (3), (iii) Late Dr TN Jha Memorial and KP Chansoria Medal and traveling grant (one), (iv) ISA Ludhiana best E poster award (one). A total of 1000 abstracts were submitted, out of which 135 abstracts were shortlisted for final presentation for various award sessions based on blinded review system. Clear instructions were shared with the authors/presenters about the correct abstract format to be used while submitting their research on the website. The abstract publication does not prevent the authors from future publication of the same research in biomedical journals, but they need to declare the presentation as per the citation details provided in IJA. The Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists (ISA) under the leadership of Dr Bala Bhaskar S, President (2019) and the Governing Council have been the driving force behind this long pending desire of the scientific community in India.

The ISA hopes that the readers take advantage of this initiative to improve the research quality among trainees and members in future.
